Notice of Race

Organising Authority

The Organising Authority is the United Kingdom Windsurfing Association.
The Cup Series comprises of the following events:
- April 26th & 27th – Welsh Cup, Mumbles YC, Swansea.
- May 24th to 26th - British Open, Christchurch BC.
- June 28th & 29th – Northern Cup, Bridlington.
- July 19th & 20th – Southern Cup, Eastbourne.
- Oct.25th & 26th – Midlands Cup, Whitwell, Rutland Water.
Rules
1. Racing will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing 2005 – 2008
  including Appendix B: Windsurfing Competition Rules; and the Sailing Instructions.
2. The rules and byelaws of local sailing club or council may apply.
3. RYA prescriptions will apply.
4. The relevant International Class Rules, including national class rules where applicable.
Advertising

Category C of ISAF Regulation 20-Advertising Code-shall apply.
Competitors may be required to carry event sponsors sticker on their sails.
Eligibility and Entry
1. Racing will be for men and women in the following International classes:
  BIC Techno 293
  RSX
  Raceboard
  Formula
2. Within these classes the following age categories (divisions) may be recognised:
  Junior (aged 14 or under as at 31st December 2008) – Techno 293 6.8 only
  Junior (aged 16 or under as at 31st December 2008)
  Youth (aged 19 or under as at 31st December 2008) -18 for RSX Youth
  Master (aged 35 or over as at 31st December 2007)
  Veteran (aged 50 or over as at 31st December 2007)
3. Within these classes the following National class divisions may apply:
  Raceboard 7.5 Raceboard Unlimited Techno RYA National Kona National
  Formula 11.0 Formula freerace RSX 7.8
4. A sailor must currently be a member of the UKWA in order to compete or a non UK resident who is a member of either their national windsurfing association or an ISAF Member National Authority.
5. Entries may be made in advance by completing the pre entry form on www. ukwindsurfing.com. Alternatively entries can be made on the day. A discount applies for pre entry.
6. All Competitors under the age of 18 are required to submit Parent/Guardian Declarations completed by the parents before commencing racing.
7. A competitor does not become eligible for series or event points by ‘pre entering’, but only by registering at the event and being capable of sailing and intending to do so.
8. Before competing, each competitor shall: register for the event at the race office and pay the required entry fee and complete, update or confirm an equipment registration form if required.
9. No entry will be accepted after 11.00am on the first scheduled day of racing, except at the discretion of the organising committee.
Registration/ Briefing
1. Competitors shall confirm entry details with the Registration Team by 09.30 on the first morning of racing. Tally numbers will be posted on the ONB before racing commences.
  There will be a welcome and briefing for all competitors on the first morning of racing at around 09:45.
Sailing Instructions
1. Sailing instructions will be downloadable from the UKWA events website. Sailing instructions will also be posted on the ONB. Questions on the sailing instructions may be emailed to info@ukwindsurfing.com. Questions and answers will be posted to the UKWA website and will be posted on the Official Notice Board events.
Racing Programme and schedule

There will be a maximum number of 4 races per class per day apart from the last day of a regatta where the maximum number of races is 3. If the number of completed races should fall behind schedule, a fourth race may be held on the last day.
The warning signal for the first race on the first day will not be before 10.25.
There shall be no warning signal after 16.00 on the last day of the regatta.
Minimum Conditions
1. The intention is that all racing takes place in suitable conditions. The Race Officer shall be
  the judge of the suitability of conditions, and will take into account the effect of the
  speed and direction of any current, and wind measurements from as many parts of the
  course as possible.
2. The Race Officer will take into account the relevant Championship Rules of the
  participating international classes- see relevant class websites.
Courses and Racing Area
1. Any of the courses as shown in attachment A of the Sailing Instructions may be used. These include a box course and a windward/leeward course. Gates at leeward marks may be used. A slalom style finish may be used.
Scoring
1. The Low Point Scoring System of Appendix A will apply.
2. A minimum of 3 races is required for a valid Series event.
3. Each boards Cup Series score will be the total of her finishing position in each valid event in the series with her worst finishing position discarded if four or more events completed.
Identification
1. Windsurfers must display sail numbers on both sides of the sail. Results may not be given for a competitor failing to display sail numbers corresponding to their registered sail number National sail numbers do not need to be carried however if they are, new (GBR) letters should be used.
Prizes
1. Prizes may be awarded to the 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each class.
2. Category (division) prizes may be awarded depending upon the numbers of competitors
  entered in a category/division.
3. Event Prizes will be awarded if one race has been completed.
4. Series Prizes will be awarded if one valid event has been completed.
Social Programme
1. If evening meal and entertainment is being provided for all competitors on the Saturday evening, tickets would be required and these would be on sale (or distributed) at the Race Office.
Rights to use Names and Likenesses
1. Competitors automatically grant to the organising authority without payment the right in perpetuity to make, use and show any motion pictures, still pictures and live, taped or filmed television of or relating to the event.
Safety Regulations
1. All competitors under the age of 17 shall wear a buoyancy aid or life jacket to an appropriate standard at all times when afloat. Wet suits and dry suits are not an appropriate standard. When flag Y is flying all competitors shall wear a buoyancy aid or life jacket to an appropriate standard at all times when afloat.
2. A tally system shall be in use.
3. Disclaimer of Liability
  1. Competitors are entirely responsible for their own safety, whether afloat or ashore, and nothing reduces this responsibility. It is for competitors to decide whether their board is fit to sail in the conditions in which it will find itself. By launching or going to sea competitors confirm the board is fit for those conditions and that they are competent to sail and compete in them. Nothing done by the organisers can reduce the responsibility of the owners and/or competitors, nor will it make the organisers responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury, however it may have occurred, as a result of the board taking part in the racing. The organisers encompass everyone helping to run the event. The provision of patrol boats does not relieve owners and competitors of their responsibilities.
  2. Parents or guardians of minors have an additional responsibility for their children and to make the decision as to whether he or she is fit to sail in the conditions that prevail or are forecast.
    Insurance
Boards are required to be adequately insured including insurance against third party claims of at least £2,000,000.
Radio Communication
1. A board shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boards. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.
