2008 will see a 10 event series with 7 events to count. 2007 saw the Midlands region run joint events along side North Zone Team 15 events, which was a great success for both junior and adult sailors. Again this year this will be our main priority, supporting junior sailing for the future of our sport. The majority of team 15 events will again run along side adult racing, but team 15 competitors are welcome at all Midland events and all results will count to the overall series.

This year the Midland Region has been asked to host three rounds of the National Inland Series.
The first of which will be The Inland National Championships Round One at Carsington Water on 19th & 20th April. Day one will include the first event of the team 15 series. However sailors will be encouraged to stay on and compete on day two. All the two-day results will count to the Midlands series and towards the UKWA Inland National Series. Overnight camping will be in the farmers field just above Carsington Water on Friday and Saturday night.

The second will be The Inland National Championships Round Two at Whitwell on 17th & 18th May. This event will also host The RYA Junior Windsurfing Championships 2008 for all junior fleets from 3.5 to 5.5 The RYA will be providing a large marquee for the event and human table football is planned for the evening. Trade demos will be available on both days. This event will, without doubt be the biggest course racing event in 2008. Overnight camping will be permitted at Whitwell on Friday and Saturday night.

The Rutland Marathon will as usual feature at this event and this year the race will be scheduled for Saturday afternoon with the reserve day being Sunday in the event of no wind..

The third will be The Inland National Championships Round Five at Whitwell on 11th & 12th October. Overnight camping will be permitted at Whitwell on Friday and Saturday night.

Hopefully having tasted a National two-day event our juniors will then go on to compete in the rest of the Midland Series, The Inland series and maybe progress to the cup series later in the year.

The Midlands AGM will be held at Hollowell Sailing Club on Saturday March 15th during the lunch break.

The 2007 series prize giving will be at Hollowell during the first event of our series on Saturday 15th March.

Many midland sailors went on to compete at National and International events some with great success. Many junior sailors were selected for RYA Zone Squads and others went forward to the RYA National Squad. Congratulations to all who took part.

The Rutland Marathon was again a outstanding success in 2007. The final total raised was just over £2500 for the NCH children’s charity. This was an outstanding effort. Thank you to everyone who raised sponsor money.

Boardwise have agreed to sponsor the UKWA Midland Region for 2007 and have also agreed to sponsor the course racing at the Inland National Championships Round Two.

Many people helped the Midland Region during 2007. Special thanks to Boardwise our Sponsor, parents for bringing the junior sailors along, the UKWA & The RYA for their support and to everyone else who contributed on and off the water.
