LWA Race Training Cancelled

27 March 2015

Hi LWA Sailors

As you are aware, we were planning a Race Training Day, coupled with a Formula and Raceboard Taster Session at Oxford Sailing Club, Farmoor Reservoir, tomorrow, Saturday 28 March.

We have as usual been monitoring the weather forecast all week, XC weather is currently - as at 3:30pm Friday afternoon - showing wind of between 21 and 23 mph with gusts of between 33 and 39 mph.

After consultation with, amongst others, Rob Kent and Chris Bond, it has been decided to cancel tomorrow's activities entirely, in the interests primarily of safety, but also because very little useful Race Training could be undertaken in such conditions and regarding the Taster Session it would be seriously unwise to encourage youngsters to take out either Raceboard or Formula gear, particularly as they would obviously be new to the equipment. There would be a strong possibility that both the young sailors and the equipment would suffer damage, neither of which is acceptable.

We shall go back to the drawing board and see if it is possible to arrange another Taster Session, maybe in conjunction with a UKWA event, and we shall also examine the possibilities for another LWA Race Training Session.

Our sincere apologies go to all those who have put themselves out to be able to at come to Oxford tomorrow, but we trust that you will agree that the decision to cancel the event is in all our best interests.

Regards - The LWA Committee
