Techno Committee

22 November 2015

Please see below a letter from Helen Bennett.

UKWA Chairman, Bob Ingram added:

"It is essential for the future of the Techno Class recognition that these rolls are filled as quickly as possible. Without a properly structured committee the Techno class will not be recognised and without it there will be little or no support for our Junior classes. I can not stress how important it is that these positions are filled asap. Please if you can help in any way then step forward now and support our Junior sailors and the future of windsurfing in the UK.''

Job Descriptions

Sent on behalf of Helen Bennett, Techno Class Association Chair

Dear Techno Class Association Member,

I am writing to you as the Techno Class Association Member (TCA) Chair to ask for your much needed help and support.

The TCA's role is:

At the moment, I sit on a Windsurfing Steering Group, alongside the UKWA and RS:X Class Chair’s and key RYA staff. However, as some of you may be aware, the TCA do not currently have a proper Committee so are unable to fulfil the above and support our windsurfers effectively.

As an RYA Pathway class, the Techno Class is heavily supported by the RYA. The RYA supports the funding of Zone and UKJS squads coaches as well as providing cash investment to the Class Association, RYA staff advice and support and an Eric Twiname RIB. As part of the RYA’s commitment to Windsurfing, a Windsurfing Officer has been appointed to assist the class and RYA windsurfing junior and youth activity. The Windsurfing Officer, Anisha Walkerley, will help to train the committee, provide support and offer advice.

The Committee roles are:

Sitting on the Committee is a rewarding role, allowing you to have a say in the current activity of the class as well as the shaping the future and long-term prosperity of the sport. Therefore, we desperately need your help to establish a TCA committee and re-create a more effective, better Class Association. Commitment would consist of 1-2 face-to-face meetings per year, where possible coinciding with an event, as well short Skype /conference calls where needed to plan activity. Further details of the Committee Roles are attached.

The RYA has committed to supporting overage sailors once again this year, but we do still need a Training Office to organise additional activity and training over the year and into next winter. Unless volunteers comes forward, there will not be an Open Training programme.

If you would be interested in joining the TCA Committee and helping your windsurfers, or have any questions, please contact Anisha Walkerley (anisha.walkerley@rya.org.uk). As we are keen to get a committee in place as soon as possible, please could you let Anisha know by Wednesday 2nd December. We would then look to hold an EGM to appoint a committee, probably held as a conference call, as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

Helen Bennett
