UKWA rider is 2008 Masters Formula World Champion

Richard sits on Xaviers BoardAfter four days of waiting for the wind, the organisers made the decision to move to a new location for day 5 (Fri 2 Jan). It was a very brave decision that paid off. El Paraiso, 60 miles North of Ancon was indeed windy.


Youth & Masters Formula Worlds in Peru – Day 1

After days of perfect wind, it decided to take a holiday for day 1 which is quite usual for windsurfing competitions! Not to worry, the GBR riders were busy relaxing by the pool. Yesterday the practice race went fine for yours truly who won overall (including the youth).


Sophie Bailey – Young Sports Person Award

16 year-old Sophie Bailey from Morwenstowe received the OCS Young Sports Person Award for the South West Region from celebrity sporting guest Beijing Olympic Bronze Medallist Bryony Shaw at this year’s celebratory luncheon on 27 November at the Brit Oval in London. Windsurfer of the Year

The cream of the UK’s windsurfing talent descended on WPNSA this weekend to receive their trophies and receive applause from their peer’s. All windsurfing disciplines were represented including Olympic RSX, Slalom, Speed, Freestyle, Course Racing and Wave. The UKWA windsurfer of the year was also crowned. The candidates are drawn from the best national and international competitors and are then voted on by the windsurfing public.

“There must be easier ways to get windsurfing on the TV” I thought as I was bounced high out of the water and twisted round in mid air off the hellish chop, on the verge of a catapult for about 5 hours, with cramps almost everywhere!

Olympic update

At the halfway stage (hopefully, given the lack of wind), Nick Dempsey currently lies in 3rd place, and Bryony in 5th. The RYA have been on top of all the action with loads of articles going out on all the sailing action, here are the windsurfing highlights from the RYA so far.


Keith wins FELIXSTOWE ‘Sports Personality of the Year Award’

Keith in Egypt Keith intends to use the profile of the Felixstowe ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ Award to create more awareness of the sport of windsurfing in his hometown.


Cartwright relishing new RYA role…

For the past six years Helen Cartwright has played a leading role in putting Great Britain at the forefront of Junior, Youth and Olympic Classes windsurfing. Now Chester-born Cartwright has been charged with ensuring the UK’s sailing and windsurfing coaches remain at the head of the international pack after being appointed the new RYA Coaching Development Manager.

Andrew receiving his award from the RYAGlaswegian Team15 (T15) Instructor, Andy Kerr, has been awarded one of the RYA’s most prestigious coaching awards – RYA T15 Windsurfing Instructor of the Year 2008. The eagerly awaited awards ceremony took place at the world’s biggest dinghy show, the RYA Dinghy Sailing Show, Alexandra Palace this weekend Saturday (01 March). Full story on Boards.

Keith does it again ….

On Sunday 24th February a packed Seckford Theatre in Woodbridge Suffolk witnessed record breaking nine times British Windsurfing Champion Keith Atkinson, being presented with the evenings’ most prestigious award – Suffolk ‘Sports Personality of the Year’.
