North East Windsurfers (NEWS) organise an annual regional race series of 7 to 8 events using various sailing clubs and lakes in and around the counties of Cumbria, Durham, Northumberland and the Scottish border.

Racing takes place in the nationally established classes of Formula, Raceboard Unlimited and Raceboard. A Club Class is devoted to the novice or club competitor and Team 15 sailors compete in the T15 sail size classes.

Events span a weekend with 3 races being held respectively on both Saturday and Sunday, with a competitors best 3 race results counting in determining final placings. Racing normally starts at 1.00pm on Saturdays and 11.30am on Sundays, with the series attracting competitors from Scotland , Lincolnshire, Yorkshire as well as the northeast itself”.
