Greg Martin

I started windsurfing aged 6 and was soon a regular at West Pennine Windsurf Club, charging around on my Mini BiC and getting in everybody’s way. Before long I felt the bright lights and fame of competition calling and moved onto the NW Junior Race Series.

After many years racing, with varying degrees of success, I decided it was time to move onto something new and began making the pilgrimage to Rhosneigr every weekend for some waves. Although my first few attempts resulted in a lot of swimming and not much ‘ripping’, I was hooked and set my mind to improving.

2003 has been great! Despite a disappointing trip to Tiree in 2002 where the wind seemed determined to frustrate, I travelled up there again this year and was rewarded with two and a half weeks of classic conditions. Next up it’s a trip to South Africa to train and swim with the infamous Great Whites! Hope everybody had a good off-season and I look forward to seeing you on the water!

Big thanks to Dave at Funsport for all the support over the past five years and JP and Neil Pryde for top kit. Finally thanks to the No. 1 sponsors/caddies/chefs/taxies, etc - Mum and Dad.

Work: Stacking shelves in the Rhosneigr Spar, it doesn’t get any better than this!

Goals: UK Wave Champion, infinite wealth.

Ideal Conditions: cross offshore, logo high, sailing in shorts.
