James Simpson
I learnt to windsurf in 1999 at Bosworth Water Park and progressed from there into the RYA Zone Squads. By 2002 I was sailing 5.5m Aloha and I managed to come 1st in the Eric Twinname and 3rd at the Youth and Masters. At the start of 2003 I was on 6.5m Aloha competing on the UKWA National Tour but I didn't do to well and by the middle of the year I had made the change to 6.6m IMCO. Soon I worked out that I wasn't the best build for Raceboard and I got bored of pumping in light winds.
I decided to go to formula which suited my weight and style much better. Before the season started I managed to pick up some sails from Nick Scott and Boardwise and also a Starboard Youth Formula. Throughout 2004 I raced Formula in the Freerace Fleet and had great fun trying to beat every one round the courses. At the end of the year I finished in 4th place overall and 1st youth. At the same time I also competed in several SCUK events and came 3rd at Rutland and 2nd at Poole.
