Dave Gilchrist
I learned to windsurf back in 1984 in the warm but murky waters of Hong Kong, whilst serving in HM forces. Having definitely picked up “the bug” (and not shed it since!) I went from beginner to instructor and then gained RYA coaching qualifications over the following years. I very quickly realised that the key to improving both my skills and enjoyment of the sport entailed getting into racing on a regular basis.

I have now raced without interruption since 1988 - initially only with the services and, increasingly, in civilian competition – both Regionally, with Southern and London areas, and Nationally.
Having left the army early in 2001 I am now committed totally to racing, mainly raceboard, and try to enter as many of the nationally arranged events as possible, as well as, of course, supporting the London region in various forms. I’ve been closely involved with our sport ever since; always competing when and wherever possible and helping to organise and bring new entrants into windsurfing.
Having entered the ‘Worlds’ for the last 5 years, I suppose my high point was becoming World Grand Master (nice speak for Veteran!) in Italy in 2001. Recently elevated from humble Committee Member to Chairman of London Windsurfing Association and hoping to fully justify the faith placed in me by it’s erstwhile members! Always keen and interested to promote our fantastic sport in whatever shape or form.
