Inland 3 - Farmoor

Sat 16th - Sun 17th June

UKWA/LWA INLANDS EVENT 3   OXFORD SAILING CLUB

SAT 16TH/SUN 17TH JUNE

Information update:-

This coming weekend is the Event 3 of the UKWA Inland series combined with a one day event for LWA Summer Series (Sat) and T15 Coaching.

Please ensure that you have £2 per day in change for the Thames Water Car Park fee. We believe they have now mended the machine!

There is a possibility that trailers may be dropped off as late as 21.45 on the Friday evening, but we are not able to guarantee this absolutely, otherwise you will have to take it to the camping field.

Registration will be open from 8.00am both days, closing at 9.45 on the Saturday and 9.00 on the Sunday. Note that briefing is at 10.15 on the Saturday.

Breakfast will be available in the clubhouse from 8.30am both days.   A BBQ is planned for the Saturday night provided we get 30 takers signing up at registration, the cost will be £6.00.

Following on from our evening entertainment at Bewl Valley, there will be an open mic night on the Saturday in the club house bar. So please bring guitars, spoons, tin whistles etc.

If you wish to stay on in the bar, please note that all vehicles will have to be removed from the Car Park by 21.45 so it is suggested that cars and motorhomes are moved to the Camping site before the BBQ begins.

Oxford Sailing Club wishes to apologise for any inconvenience to visitors from the building works which are taking place.

Camping Site - We are back in the old camp site on the right hand side of the road as you leave the clubhouse.  However we have been asked not to camp or drive in the long grass as this is being left to grow to make hay.  On leaving site please ensure that you take all your rubbish with you.

For any other information please see UKWA events section, T15 website or contact the LWA on 07711 552265.

Techno and Junior sailors - arrangements for UKWA Inland-3 at Farmoor on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th June 2012

The first day of UKWA Inland-3 at Farmoor will be held in conjunction with a one-day RYA South Zone Team15 interclub event. On the Saturday, Team15 6.8's will race with UKWA Techno 6.8's and 7.8's on the UKWA course, and UKWA Juniors (3.5, 4.5 and 5.8) will race with the corresponding Team15 fleets on the Team15 course. Coaching support will be provided for UKWA Juniors (see http://www.techno293.org.uk/ for details).

Team15 sailors whose home/club is within RYA South Zone can enter for (and be given a placing in) both events if they wish - Team15 Interclub and UKWA Inland-3. To enter for both, they should register and pay with Team15 for Saturday (either on-line in advance, or at Team15 registration on Saturday morning), and then register and pay with UKWA on Sunday morning for Day 2 of the UKWA event. UKWA registration can be done in person up until 0900hrs on Sunday. Sailors registered for both Team15 and Day 2 of UKWA Inland-3 will be given a placing in the Team15 event based on Saturday's racing, and a placing in UKWA Inland-3 based on Saturday's and Sunday's racing. Note that races counting towards a Team15 placing will start no later than 1600hrs on Saturday, but there may be additional racing on Saturday after this for the UKWA event. Scoring arrangements for any additional races will be explained at Saturday's briefing and in the SI's.

Sailors who do not wish to enter (or are not eligible) for Team15 should register with UKWA on Saturday morning for the UKWA 2-day event. UKWA registration can be done in person on Saturday morning up until 0945hrs. Sailors registering for the UKWA 2-day event only will be given a placing in UKWA Inland-3 based on their results from Saturday's and Sunday's racing, but will not receive a placing in Saturday's Team15 event.

About the Club

The Club is situated on Farmoor Reservoir 5 miles to the west of Oxford city centre. The Club is one of the premier inland water sailing clubs and waters in the southern half of England and is ideal venue for sailors of all ages and abilities. Situated in an elevated position above the wide expanses of the upper Thames flood plain the reservoir enjoys prevailing westerly winds. Excellent and plentiful car parking, a large clubhouse with good showers and changing facilities, plus launching from a large concrete apron. Care needs to be taken however as it can sometimes be slippery.

The Sailing Club Bar is expected to stay open for a period on the Saturday evening immediately after the close of racing. Please note that food is available in the mornings and at lunchtimes only.  See note below concerning camping - It is a Thames Water Regulation that no overnight camping is permitted in their carpark.  Dogs are permitted in the carpark but are not permitted on the upper level.

Camping

Please pay at registration. Note that there is NO WATER on site so you will need to bring your own. You will be able to get water from the Sailing Club on the Saturday however. There are some fishermen’s toilets available within a few minutes’ walking distance.

"Please do not use instant Barbeques or make small fires as these will leave burn marks on the grass."

It is NOT practicable to rig up on the camping site even though it is close to the reservoir. You may of course drive your kit up to the water level in the Sailing Club and drop it off, but vehicles must all be taken back down to the lower car park immediately after unloading.

Dropping Off Trailers

Please be warned that Thames Water usually close the main gates at dusk (around 8pm - although this precise time is NOT guaranteed!) so if you arrive after this time you will NOT be able to drop off your trailer.

When you do drop off your trailer please note that there is a special area designated for trailers alongside the path which runs down the bottom of the sloping field. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE YOUR TRAILER ON THE TWO LARGE FLAT RIGGING AREAS EITHER SIDE OF THE CLUBHOUSE.
