UKWA North Sea Cup - Folkestone & Hythe 2010

UKWA competitors. Please do not get confused. This is a normal three day event for all UKWA competitors, but within the event we will also be hosting the North Sea Cup which is a two day event Saturday & Sunday. Your UKWA entry will include free entry to the North Sea Cup event. All times for the UKWA event are as normal as published in the standard NOR & SI's. There is no pre entry for the North Sea Cup

Registration/entry from 8am to 11am Saturday 29th

There will be a welcome briefing at approximately 11.15 

First Possible start Saturday 12 noon

Last possible start Sunday 3pm

Prize giving at approximately 4pm Sunday 30th

Folkestone Town Council and the UK Windsurfing Association are to stage the 2nd round of their national course racing series and the 2nd of the North Sea Cup events at Folkestone on May 29,30,31 The event is the first ever to be held form Folkestone in association with the Hythe & Saltwood Sailing Club from where numerous events and national champion windsurfers have emerged from over the years.

Folkestone Town Council been extremely supportive in order to get this event off the ground and we expect to attract approximately 150 -200 competitors, from the UK and Northern Europe plus family support, spectators and visitors, for this bank holiday weekend.

General

Over 100 of the UK's top racers are expected, including a sprinkling of our World Champions, together with the cream of windsurfers from northern France, Belgium and the Netherlands. The first two days of the event will also count as part of the North Sea Cup, which is also contested at Brouwersdam in Holland in April, Ostend in September and Wimereux in October. Sailors will be competing on the RS:X Olympic board, plus Raceboard and Formula classes. Juniors will be on Techno One design boards with 6.8 and 7.8sq. metre sails. Racing is scheduled to begin no earlier than 11.0am on Saturday 30th and each morning around 10.30 am, weather permitting, and should continue until late afternoon, providing a fascinating and colourful spectacle both on the beach and on the water. Classes RS:X Olympic board, Raceboard and Formula classes. Junior Techno One Design 6.8m and 7.8m.

Racing will take place on a variety of courses depending on conditions. Whilst these events will attract the top course racers from the UK and abroad, if this is your first event, do not be deterred, you are most welcome. Make yourself known to the race office and we will not only welcome you but we will make every effort to make your first event a memorable and enjoyable experience

Series Scoring

The UK National Champion will be decided by the British Open at Weymouth on Oct 2nd & Oct 3rd (in conjunction with the RYA) plus ones best 4 results from the 5 cup events.

Venue

Venue Folkestone offers one of the most perfect racing venues in the country, situated on the Southeast coast on the English Channel it offers challenging conditions on the water and the most spectacular viewing from the back drop of the lees behind. Set at the start of the beautiful Coastal Park which has been developed in the last few years, with its walks, cycle routes and Activity Park there is something here for the whole family. Easy access to the beach, direct from the race site car park couldn't be easier, and with the newly formed rock groins and coves providing safe launching areas for all ages it lends itself to be a fantastic venue and event.

Parking/Camping There is a large Car Parking area with direct access to the beach, the parking area is to be fenced off and security will be provided over night. Toilet and Shower blocks are to be provided for competitors and there will be a marquee and with a small galley on site for teas coffees and sandwiches etc. Parking for the event will be charged at £5.00 per night per vehicle (pay on the gate)To reserve a space please email marccarney @btconnect.com

Terms of attendance

The UKWA reserves the right to exclude or expel any member / non member / family / group or individual from its event site should it be considered that they may by their actions or the perception of such bring the UKWA, its hosts other parties or individuals into disrepute. The UKWA Committee, in part or in it’s entirety, shall be the sole judge of such action, and their decision is deemed final.

Persons expelled shall leave the event site within 30 minutes of any verbal notice and shall not return. Exclusion may be deemed temporary (this event) or permanent (all events). Permanent expulsion shall be the decision of the elected committee and shall be confirmed in writing within 21 days of any temporary expulsion, however any excluded individual may not attend any UKWA events during this period of consideration.
