About Slalom

UKWA Slalom represents windsurfing in its purest form. No matter what your ability, the kit you use or the discipline you specialise in, everyone can relate to the exhilaration of blasting back and forth, trying to squeeze that extra bit of juice out of your kit whilst racing your mates.

At an event you choose a fleet to join depending on your ability, and blast around a simple course, trying to get to the finish the quickest!

The South coast of England has been providing windsurfers with awesome conditions since time began with cool sea breezes and rolling swells, with the coming week being no exception.

For this the 5th Round of the heavily fought BSA the wind has been ordered and the beach has been laid down at Hove Lagoon for what could be the best windsurfing weekend of your life, K66 featuring Fanatic, North and ION plans to bring this beautiful seaside town to life with the colour and flare that windsurfing offers, Hove lagoon offers perfect conditions for beginners on its waist deep lagoon to professionals on the beautiful channel as well as a coffee house providing that little boost to your day.

Hove town with its perfect lawns spawning sunbathers and fitness classes over looks the ocean and with shops and restaurants within walking distance this really is a beautiful place, and with a sea breeze forecasted Saturday and Sunday with a max of 20mph both days and 24 degree temperatures things really couldn't be any better.

Whether this will be your first event or you are competing for the overall title come down and enjoy the ambiance of the water sports world, and if the wind decides to leave us out then the fun begins with light wind blasting and freestyle events planned, also SUP boards will be available with all the major brands having there demo gear available for use.

Prizes from North, Fanatic, ION and Sportif will be allocated to top 3 in each division, also we have major prizes that will be for the top in each division for our two events, Hove and Worthing later in the year, so you have to show up at both to receive the big prices.

The Party:

Saturday night we have teamed up with the guys from Paddle round the pier for what will be an awesome evening of festivities, which will be on site at the Paddle Round The Pier, there will be bands and food available up to 10pm.

Special Parking rules:

The rules are quite strict and the council will be monitoring us very closely so if we want to hold future events we need to stick to them. Please can you make sure you are aware that:

  1. NO vehicles on the promenade (Except one vehicles to be used to manage the racing)
  2. Parking for the organisors and competitors will be in the South  West corner of the Lagoon. (Some fencing will be delivered to the  Lagoon at 8am on Sat morning we could do with a hand putting this out)
  3. No overnight camping except for 3 UKWA vehicles for security
  4. No vehicle movements around the Lagoon during the day time

Directions and Parking

From London: M23 until it becomes A23 and follow it to Brighton sea front. Turn right at pier roundabout and follow the coast road for about 3 miles until you see Hove Lagoon on your left - turn at the traffic lights BEFORE you pass the Lagoon. From the West: Head for Shoreham and follow the A259 coast road until you pass Blue Ocean Sports Surf Shop on your right.

Facilities

Food, drinks, the bar and all facilities of the clubhouse available to competitors. The clubhouse is friendly and very cosy - because space is limited, and there will be training courses taking place, please do not leave kit in the changing rooms and obviously no valuables.

The showers will be in great demand at the end of racing - IN and OUT quickly please; and avoid the busy times with the paying public using the Centre. The Council will be providing portaloos to cope with peak demand - but please walk the extra few metres to the public conveniences along side the lagoon and near Cafe.

There is also a cafe / restaurant alongside the lagoon.

Terms of attendance

The UKWA reserves the right to exclude or expel any member / non member / family / group or individual from its event site should it be considered that they may by their actions or the perception of such bring the UKWA, its hosts other parties or individuals into disrepute. The UKWA Committee, in part or in it’s entirety, shall be the sole judge of such action, and their decision is deemed final.

Persons expelled shall leave the event site within 30 minutes of any verbal notice and shall not return. Exclusion may be deemed temporary (this event) or permanent (all events). Permanent expulsion shall be the decision of the elected committee and shall be confirmed in writing within 21 days of any temporary expulsion, however any excluded individual may not attend any UKWA events during this period of consideration.
