Inland series 5 - Bewl

28 September 2005

NOTICE OF RACE

UKWA Inland Series -Event no 5 LWA/Bewl Valley:Sat/Sun 15/16 October

NOW TRANSFERRED TO FARMOOR SAT/SUN 22/23 OCT

Because of a distinct lack of water at Bewl the event has now been transferred to Oxford Sailing Club at Farmoor Reservoir (the same venue as Event 3 in the Inland Series) but on the FOLLOWING weekend, namely Sat 22/Sun 23 October. The UKWA and LWA are very grateful to Oxford Sailing Club for kindly agreeing to host the event at such short notice. (Note that a decision on the LWA Icebreaker event due to be held at Bewl on Sat 5 Nov will be made a week before the event.)

Although this information will be emailed to as many likely participants as possible and will appear on the UKWA and LWA websites we would ask all sailors to spread the word amongst their sailing friends who might otherwise be unaware of the date and venue change.

FLEETS & CLASSES TO BE SAILED:

OPEN 3.5; OPEN 4.5; OPEN 5.5; OPEN 6.6
The above entrants will sail on the main course but with a shorter
distance to be sailed.

RACEBOARD JUNIOR: Techno 293; MJOD 6.6 R/b Junior; Aloha
RACEBOARD: Raceboard 7.5; IMCO 7.4; Raceboard 9.5; Unlimited

TIMINGS:

Registration will be open from 09.00 am on the Saturday. Briefing on the Sat is at 10.30 am and the first race is scheduled for 11.00am. Sunday start times will be announced on the Saturday evening.

ENTRY FEES:

Adult: £25.00
All Juniors (under 17) £20.00

LWA members who wish to sail the Saturday only, for which the first 4 races will count towards the LWA Summer Series, may do so at the usual LWA rate of £12.00, however we would like to encourage all our LWA sailors to compete on both days and support this National Event.

Entry Forms will shortly be available on the LWA website.

RACE ORGANISATION:

It is anticipated that all Juniors will sail on the same course as the main fleet but a reduced distance.

Weather permitting - there will be two races before lunch on the Saturday, followed by two or possibly more in the afternoon. Standard UKWA Sailing Instructions will be used.
Formula boards will be in a separate fleet which will have its own start and will be scored separately. This should mean that Formula boards will not be sent on the water in unsuitable wind conditions.

OVERNIGHT CAMPING:

As previously, motorhomes will be accommodated in a field near the reservoir for the Friday and Saturday nights - see the LWA website for map - at a charge of £5.00 per van for one night, £8.00 for two nights. Note that there is NO WATER on site so you will need to bring your own. You will be able to get water from the Sailing Club on the Saturday however. There are some fishermen's toilets available within a few minutes's walking distance. It is NOT practicable to rig up on the camping site even though it is close to the reservoir. You will need to drive your kit up to the edge of the water to rig up.

The Reservoir gates are normally locked at dusk but we hope to be able to persuade the Water Company to keep them open later on the Friday evening so that trailers can be parked near the sailing club, although this is not yet guaranteed. Please check the LWA website for details nearer the event -

SATURDAY EVENING MEAL IN THE CLUBHOUSE:

Oxford Sailing Club's caterers have offered to put on an evening meal and open the bar on the Saturday evening but we would need a minimum of 20 persons to make this worthwhile. A meal of Lasagne plus a dessert would cost £6.00 so would you please email info@LWAwindsurfing.co.uk to indicate your interest in this possibility so that we can decide whether to go ahead.
