Wave Championships Part One

10 May 2005

Rhosneigr, 5th - 8th May 2005

Andy King competing at the Wave Championships Unfortunately there was no real swell coming in for us at Rhosneigr so it was not possible to get into any proper Wave Championship action over the weekend.

There was however some small chop and pretty solid North West wind for Saturday and Sunday, so a pleasing total entry of 43 sailors were able to put on an excellent display of fast and furious freestyle, which was enjoyed by the competitors and spectators alike.

The wind continually teased us on Thursday and Friday but after a 7.30 AM briefing and an early start on Saturday there were three full rounds of freestyle completed for the men's pro fleet over the next two days.

The ladies, youths, junior and amateur fleets managed to get through four or five rounds each and all the sailors were pretty worn out but seemed happy at the prizegivng on Sunday afternoon.

Everyone also thoroughly appreciated the day and night-time hospitality of Rhosneigr and Bucky with some superb entertainment and excellent food and drink at the local pubs and restaurants.

Friday's paintballing was pretty bruising for some and the coach trip to enjoy the cultural delights of Bangor, (University Night Club) on Saturday evening certainly resulted in more than one hangover for Sunday.

Many thanks must go to Dave Buckland at Funsport, the Anglesey Council, Boardseeker and all the local cafés and pubs for their kind support.
