Tenby delivers!

Without a doubt Tenby offers everything required to host a major national event: a superb stretch of water, wonderful sandy beaches, and a very hospitable town!

Oh - and a very welcoming club... many thanks to Mike Prout, Owen Bowen and the other members of the host club.

Chris "boyo" Lewis had been "waxing lyrical" about the merits of the venue to host a UKWA Cup - maybe even the British Open - and he was right!

Needless to say the magic ingredient that contributes to a memorable event hit town - WIND !!! 28 competitors, evenly split between Top Flight and Challenge fleets, signed up ( no Techno Juniors made the trip west - which begs the question "Why not" ?)

The entry numbers made it easy to run lots of races for all - an epic 17 in total. In fact we had to slow it down just to give the racers sufficient recovery time !

In the top flight Xav beat Alan 10 races to 6 and emerged a worthy winner. As per normal Alan performed better on the Sunday, in the most extreme conditions, than on Saturday....despite getting to bed (after a good night out sightseeing - Tenby has lots of attractions!) as the seagulls were getting up.

Dan Simpson won the other race - a sign of times to come? Dan won the Youth division and came 3rd overall, closely followed Rich Jones - we have great strength and depth in the youth division, James Simpson was not far behind and fought hard right to the last.

Kev Greenslade will rue his decision to follow in the footsteps of "Action Jackson" - at least after midnight! On his day he can compete with the best - and one day it will all fall into place! Special mention to all TF competitors who fought hard all weekend and it was only equipment breakages that prevented all from competing every heat .

Rob Stack won 11 out of 16 Challenge fleet heats, and is looking forward to life in the Top Flight 2007! For Races 16 and 17 the fleets were merged - Rob will be encouraged by finishing 6th and 5th respectively in the overall finishing list.

A fantastic result for Junior (under 17) sailors in the Challenge fleet. Richard Simpson recorded his best ever result - 2nd overall and first junior, ahead of Liam "dudley" Round.

First Master - Tim "the Doc" Leary - enthused about the conditions, and finished ahead of Krafty, who recorded a personal best of completing two thirds of the scheduled races.

Once again the Veterans out numbered the other divisions - well done Brian Tilbury, and a welcome back to action for Mike Blackgove.
