Six of the best
8 August 2006
Keith Atkinson, the UK's number one Formula Windsurfer, was again in action last weekend at Derwent reservoir near Newcastle upon Tyne. This was the fourth and penultimate round of the 2006 UKWA Inland Championship series. With wind forecast on both days the competitors were all set to enjoy 2 days of good competition with three races being run on both days in ideal conditions. Keith once again dominated the event from the outset, winning all six races. This is the fourth national event in succession where he has won all his qualifying races taking him to a phenomenal 22 wins.
The Derwent result brings not only the 2006 British Inland Championship title a step closer but also the chance of pulling off the ‘triple', by winning the overall 2006 British Championship title along with the British Open which Keith already has under his belt.
The Starboard team sailor is now off to Switzerland to defend his 2005 Swiss EuroCup title, the event is held on lake Silvaplana at an altitude of some 6000ft in the Alps at St Moritz. Racing at this altitude brings unique problems associated with thin air and fatigue and requires a high degree of fitness.
Keith is also sponsored by ‘PHYSIOACTIVE', ‘FIT to PERFORM', BILBO'S MOTORHOMES, BEWL VALLEY S.C, ULTRASPORT UK.
