UKWA Juniors Windsurf across the English Channel
12 April 2006
15-Year-old UKWA Junior windsurfers Dan Simpson from Oxford Sailing Club and Richard Jones of Carsington succeeded in their quest to be the first juniors to windsurf across the English Channel from Dover to Calais.
Both lads used 115 litre slalom boards and 7.8m sails to complete the crossing. Dan was on a Tiga Hyper X and a Neil Pryde RS5 sail whereas Richard favoured a Starboard Isonic and a Tushingham Lightning.
JW yachting provided two ribs to chase the lads across the channel and make sure they came to no harm whilst crossing the busiest shipping lanes in the world.
As well as getting some good media coverage for windsurfing on the TV and the Radio the lads have raised about £4000 for the RSPCC and the Oxford Children's Hospital Campaign.
Richard and Dan would like to thank all their friends in the UKWA who have sponsored them and enabled them to raise a significant sum of money for such good causes.
