Hayling delivers...title decider at Poole!

29 October 2007

Yet again Hayling delivered the conditions for a "challenging" round 4 of this years Slalom Championship!
Light, but championship racing , winds confronted the fleets on Saturday - and after 3 races no one was more surprised than the over nightleader with the scoreboard- Dan Simpson with 2 bullets !
The forecast was for overnight SW winds, increasing throughout the sunday ; and rain!
Add to the mix a spring high tide at midday - and you get the right combination for exciting racing in difficult conditions!!
After 4 more races - anthing could happen ; add one more race and a third , crucial, discard kicked in + one more race for good measure......cruise and you lose! Recipe for an exciting final .
Alan Jackson rose to the occasion - two wins in the last 2 races ensured he finished the event one point ahead of main rival K 9-Guy Cribb .
If Matt Wemms had not crashed in race 8 when leading the race .. who knows .. Matt could have bee celebrating his first event win for a couple of years !
