Eastern Windsuring Association formed...

21 September 2007

For the first time in nearly 10 years, the Eastern region has its own windsurfing association and racing scene. Join in at Alton Water on 22-23 September.

May 2007 saw the formation of the all new Eastern Windsurfing Association (EWA) and support from its first sponsor, Ski Surf 2000 of Colchester.

The aims of the association are to get local windsurfers together for ‘Master Blaster' fun race days and to sail together at a variety of East Coast locations. The association also wants to encourage and support youngsters coming into the sport.

Nick Icke, founding member, said ‘This year we got a few like minded people together and decided it was time to make the association happen as there is a resurgence of windsurfing in the East. The interest is out there and there are plenty of members taking part in our online forum to compare notes on equipment and good locations to sail throughout the region'.

They have already held five races, at Alton Water, West Mersea, Felixstowe and Aldeburgh, which were well attended with plenty of fun, prizes and trophies handed out. There are classes to suit all abilities from novice youth windsurfers through to top flight racers, so everyone has a chance at coming home with a medal or trophy.

The next big event and season finale - MasterBlaster 5 & 6 - will be held on 22-23 September from 11am at Alton Walton, Suffolk. To get more information this event, membership and race reports visit - www.easternwindsurfing.com
