Web site help wanted
1 July 2007
The UKWA would like someone to help with the web site, in exchange that person would be trained up in modern web development methods.
The commitment
The commitment we're looking for is a couple of hours in the evenings each week, and a couple more every other weekend. The type of things you would be doing would be:
- Posting reports & news (sent it from others).
- Processing pictures for use on the web.
- Converting and posting results.
- Creating and editing people's profiles.
- Adding & updating results.
- Other miscellaneous tasks.
On a day to day basis, we would share the 'webmaster' email address, and divvy up things between us.
The benefits
You don't need to know web development to start with, I'm offering training & advice in modern web development methods. I've been building sites professionally and personally for longer than I care to remember, I've been teaching advanced HTML/CSS courses since 2003, and have a regular column in the main UK web development magazine.
The core things you would learn are:
- (X)HTML (structured markup)
- CSS (presentation markup)
- Photo editing & optimisation
- Associated programs
Depending on your interest, you could also learn about JavaScript / back-end programming, and server administration.
Obviously this would look great on a CV if you are interested in web development/design.
Who we are looking for
Essentially, someone who can put in the time on a regular basis, and wants to learn the skills. A reasonably tech-savvy person who is happy to learn new programs and interested in the web. Oh, good written English is very useful to! (Text speak is not suitable...)
It would probably suit someone who's at A-level or University level, looking for something to put on their CV. I'm not restricting to youngsters, but on average, people seem to have more time and inclination then, and it's a steep learning curve.
If you are interested
Email me, webmaster@ukwindsurfing.com, with who you are and why you are interested.
