F2 Speedgun Challenge 2 - Whitwell

23 May 2007

Despite a relatively small entry, this was a fiercely contested Challenge! With such an action packed weekend planned by organiser Bob Ingram and his Midlands Team, it was very difficult for most racers to divert attenion to the speed course. After 3 races and a marathon in the offing it was no surprise to see every opportunity to rest being taken. That is unless you are Scottish!

Al " i'm not mad, just very enthusiastic" Jackson (GBR53) took every opportunity to ensure he would walk away with another victory in the F2 Speedgun Challenge. No time to rest and eat for this passionate windsurfer!

Furthermore he had a serious challenger in James Simpson (GBR 290) - he was not going to let any young upstart steal his thunder! However James was equally determined to get the better of his adversary from north of the border - and get the better of him he did!

James probably spent as much time on the water as most racers - trying to get the best out of his equipment, in difficult, gusty conditions, with run after run after run at the speedgun. Perserverance does pay off: the lead was changing constantly - but just when Al thought he had nailed it -back comes James with a winning run of 34.0.

Congratulations also to Lewis Robinson who never missed an opportunity to have a go; to Dan Simpson for following orders, eventually, and eventually aiming for the speedgun to record third fastest time (i think on a formula board); great to see Allan Cross competing again and the return of Sam "crash and burn" Gooch.

Unfortunately no wind on Sunday - otherwise i am sure many more attempts at the Whitwell Run would have been attempted.

Next up-June 23/24th Hove Lagoon Festival.
