National Windsurfing Week & The Windsurfing Movie

The Windsurfing MovieBack in the eighties in seemed as if every other car had a windsurfer strapped to the roof and every pond, lake and stretch of coastline was decorated with an array of brightly coloured triangular sails. Since then the sport has taken a lower profile, but all that is beginning to change. Modern design and manufacturing techniques have resulted in equipment that is far easier to learn on, and today's participants are taking the sport in directions only dreamed of by the original pioneers. It's therefore not surprising that windsurfing is experiencing a worldwide renaissance.

To celebrate this, a group of UK enthusiasts have created National Windsurfing Week, which will run from 3-11 May and feature a host of activities taking place across the country, including many opportunities for the public to try windsurfing free of charge. Full details can be found at www.nationalwindsurfingweek.org

To get things off on the right note, there is going to be a special screening of the iconic film "The Windsurfing Movie" at The Prince Charles Cinema near Leicester Square in London, on the evening of Tuesday 29th April. This will be the first, and probably only, opportunity to see what many feel to be the best film ever made about windsurfing on a big screen.

Tickets for the showing are £10 each, and can be booked in advance by calling the box office on 0870 811 2559, or purchased on the door subject to availability.

All profits will be donated to the RNLI.

Doors open at 6.00pm with the film being shown at 6.45pm
