Hayling winter slalom

11 February 2009

Apologies for the lateness of getting this up, but if you've a hankering for Winter slalom, our friends over at the Hayling Island Sailing Club at Sandy point are running a Winter Slalom series until March.  They plan to have a speed event when the conditions are right - roughly 25 knots from the South West.

This may be a lot of wind to some, however once your sailing on the flat water which is about 50 meters from the beach (across a small water inlet) then the conditions become super easy and well worth a go. And Id suggest around half through to low tide so the sand bar is exposed.

Also it seems in April they are going to be running a round the Island race so keep you eyes peeled. Id suggest Long boards or Formula boards for this however a big (around 80cm ) slalom board could also get round ok.

Here is the link to the HISC site, and the discussion on Boards windsurfing forum.

Thanks to Nick Scott for reminiding me to post this, and for Windsurfers in the Hayling area, Nick will be looking for people to help out with the Tuesday night racing at the sea front this year. So if your interested please let Nick know. He will be reviewing the conditions toward the end of March early April to see when they can begin again. Join the Hayling Slalom email group for more info.
