Formula Windsurfing World Championship Last Day

29 March 2010

Mendoza Potrerillos - Argentina

In a nail biting race on the last day, Ross managed to keep his 3rd place overall.

Ross sailed brilliantly in that last race to finish second behind Dutch rider Casper Bouman.

All the riders who could make it for the last step of the podium were right up there to fight it out until the last leg. Those were Pawel Hlavaty from Poland, Casper & Steve Allen.

Overall winner Antoine Albeau, the flying Frenchman finished that last race in 6th position. Despite Antoine's overwhelming victory, it shows how open is the competition in Formula.

Yours truly had a good start about 20 meters upwind of Ross but Ross was doing more angle so I slotted in downwind in a good position to finish 18th and 23rd overall.  That was my best result in a Formula Worlds so far!  Had my kit turned up on time at the beginning of the regatta, I might have finished 22nd since I was only 1 point behind at the end.  Yoann Fleury in 21st was also in sight but Dennis Littel in 20th was definitely out of reach.

Yesterday was also tense for Ross as he finished the day in 3rd place but only 1 point ahead of 4th placed Pawel.

After celebrating in style at the prize giving, it's time to party! These never start before… 1am in Argentina. Never mind, it's always worth it. It was amazing how the local press got interested in Formula.

Potrerillos proved to be a great venue delivering wind and sunshine every day. The windshifts got compensated by a full 15 races. At the end of the day, that's what we're all here for, to race again and again![gallery link="file" columns="2" orderby="rand"]
