Hunstanton - UK Freestyle Tour 2

6 July 2010

Hunstanton this Weekend 10th & 11th will play host to round two of the UK Freestyle Tour

HUNSTANTON FREESTYLE. 10/11 JULY 2010.

Don't miss the Freestyle at Hunny this weekend as it's the only chance for East Coast sailors to play on their home ground. There will be categories for all ages and levels and it's great to watch if you're on the beach.

The forecast is for plenty of sunshine and the wind figures are improving all the time and even though Hunny is on the East Coast it does actually pick up some sort of sea breeze.

With modern kit freestyle can be run in pretty light winds these days anyway, as the last event at Bournemouth proved with the freestyle being the only discipline to get a result.

When we used to head up there a few years ago the parties at Hunstanton were absolutely legendary, it's a great little town and I'm sure it won't disappoint us this time around.

Even if you're not competing come along, you can always help us out on the beach during the day and party in the evening.

Hunstanton  is a popular Norfolk coastal holiday resort sixteen miles from King's Lynn and approx twelve miles from Sandringham on the A149 in Norfolk, England. Hunstanton has one of the best beaches in Norfolk, a substantial Sealife Centre (great whatever the weather), a beachfront fairground and a selection of shops.  This Norfolk town was built as a Victorian seaside resort and boasts a variety of accommodation including guesthouses, holiday cottages, self-catering accommodation, bed & breakfasts and caravan parks.

Lifestyles is back in Hunstanton for 2010 (Fri 9th, Sat 10th and Sun 11th July) and promises to be the best ever. The main objective of Lifestyles is ‘come and have a go' with activities for all the family to participate. There will be workshops in: Kite Surfing, windsurfing Skateboarding, Inline Skating, BMX and Art. You will also be able to take part in other activities such as Beach Volleyball, Beach Soccer and Climbing. The event is really designed to be able to bring all the family to and everybody will have a good time.

Parking

All vehicles camping will be at the Recreation Ground about 500mtrs away from the beach (see map). If you have Pre-Booked your event entry you will get FREE camping for the weekend. we have secured a rigging area/parking area just behind the event on the grass hill. Vehicles must be removed from this area in the evenings but will be great for rigging etc.

When you arrive make your way to the front green and park in the rigging area, if you have Pre Entered only, to collect your pass from us. those who haven't can make their way straight to the camping area. If you arrive late Friday you will have to pay for your camping and we will refund you Saturday morning.

Entertainment

There is a full marquee with live music the Friday night and the Saturday night. This is a really well put on event with burger stalls, bar and dance area in the marquee, and the band Saturday night is normally rockin!!

Sailing

Sailing in the Wash is mainly flat water with a bar that shows about 1/2 mile out which is an excellent speed run. Hunstanton is West facing so anything from SSE through to N is fine for sailing. Because of the Wash the wind cleans up and accelerates making Hunstanton an excellent location to windsurf from. With the sandbanks on the Wash becoming exposed at low tide, it makes the whole area extremely safe for beginner right through to experts.

Facilities

There really is everything here as you are right in the centre of the resort. Bars, Pubs, Ten Pin Bowling are within a 1 minute walk. Camping is at the recreation ground, accommodation is available in a selection of B & B's (see link)

Racing

The UKWA will be holding both Slalom racing and Freestyle over the weekend. There will be the usual categories of sailor but the enforsis is to get everyone involved in the event.

Prizes

Severne and Quayside Windsurfers are the leading sponsors of the event and will be putting up lots of goodies up for grabs. There will be a ‘Windsurfer Of The Weekend' prize chosen by Team QSW boss Neil Greentree for the windsurfer ( at any level) who gets involved the most! The pro sailers will be competing for the biggest Trophy on the Slalom circuit.
