BWA Rankings 2010: CHANGE to Results
The practice of awarding 'attendance points' was introduced at the start of 2009. It was in response to falling numbers at 'no wind' events causing event hosts substantial losses and threatening the Tour.
Many members have been very supportive of the 'awarding attendance' points as it recognises the efforts made by individuals. BWA also noticed an increase in numbers at 'no wind' events and appreciates this was in no small way attributable to the incentive of 'attendance points'.
However, sailors can not be subjected to changes or amendments to existing rules without proper notice. We have a duty to operate within the constitution of the Association and follow established and properly notified rules and regulations. The original system is to leave the event as a 'non-event'. Therefore if no result is achieved then no points are awarded to any competitor. Competitors will NOT receive 'attendance points' and therefore all members will receive 0 points for Wales.
It is clear that many members are in favour of a system which rewards attendance with points. With this and several other concerns in mind, we propose to hold an open meeting at the Tiree Wave Classic to discuss proposals for ensuring the long-term commercial viability of the tour for 2011 onwards.
