Information for parents regarding the selection process for the 2014/2015 Techno UK Junior Squad

Following the recent UKWA National Championships event held a Bridlington (21/22 June 2014), the RYA would like to issue the following information to help sailors and parents confirm and clarify the process for selection of the 2014/2015 Techno UK Junior Squad.

Unfortunately only 2 races were held during the weekend due to light winds and therefore this did not constitute a series as per the UKWA SIs:

16. EVENT SCORING

16.1 Other than for the Formula Windsurfing fleet, 3 races must be completed for the event to count towards the Series, although event prizes will be awarded if at least 1 race has been completed.

16.2 a) When fewer than 3 races have been completed, a board's series score shall be the total of her race scores.

b) When from 3 to 6 races have been completed, a board's series score shall be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

c) When 7-10 races have been completed, a board's series score shall be the total of her race scores excluding her two worst scores.

d) When 11 or more races have been completed, a board's series score shall be the total of her race scores excluding her three worst scores.

16.3 Rule B8.8 (Ties) is deleted

Below is the section from the RYA’s policy regarding events for selection:

RYA UK Junior Squad Indicator Series ranking events:

Date Event Venue

21/22 June 2014 Cup 2 Bridlington

12/13 July 2014 Cup 3 WPNSA

23/24 August 2014 Cup 4 Pwllheli

13/14 September 2014 National Championships (mandatory) Rutland SC

Sailors should attend the UKWA / RYA Junior National Championships, plus at least two of the

available three identified UKWA Cup events, as above.

Plus further information on scoring:

 Scoring

“RYA UK Junior Squad Indicator Series” will be scored by adding the best two overall finishing

positions from the three identified Cup series indicator events plus, the overall finishing position from the UKWA / RYA National Junior Championships. The scores will be counted unaltered, i.e. including all competitors at the regattas. These event results will be used to create a ranking list that will be updated regularly and published via a link from the UKWA/TCA website. Further scoring details can be found on the UKWA Cup Notice of Race.

Therefore, this is to confirm that sailors will now need to attend both the WPNSA and Pwllheli events, plus the National Championships at Rutland in order to stand the best possible chance of selection for the 2014/2015 Techno UK Junior Squad (i.e. Bridlington event will not be used and the other two events (WPNSA and Pwllheli) + Rutland will be used to score the series).
