Weymouth Formula Report
25 July 2016
The sun was shining and there was promise of wind for the Formula fleet on the opening day of Cup 4 at Weymouth. The fleet had to wait until lunch time for the wind to pick up and when it did, it was very light and was going to mean that everyone one went with their biggest kit. The race officer wanted to make the most of what wind there was as the forecast for Sunday looked grim so she put on 4 back to back races on a windward leeward course.
Once again Dave Coles was in commanding form and he took 3 of the 4 races. However, perhaps the most celebrated win came in the final race where Bob Ingram used all his tactical knowledge and knowledge of the wind to take his first ever win much to the pleasure of the entire UKWA. This result also meant that he would end up on the podium ahead of Tim Gibson who was punished for forgetting his tally.
The racing was hard and many found it hard to plane all the way around leading to places being swapped on the course on a frequent basis. This paved the way for Harry Sharrock to take the honours in the youth fleet and he was looking content not to get another race in which could have let James Battye back in.
