Simon Bornhoft - Hall of Fame
10 December 2017
On 25th November 2017 Simon Bornhoft, one of Britain's windsufing legends, was inducted into the UK Windsurfing Association's Hall of Fame where he joins such famous names as Peter Chilvers, Nik Baker, Guy Cribb, Dave Hackford, Peter Hart, Dave White and Penny Wilson.
A truly versatile sailor in the very top rankings on whatever aspect of the sport he chose to compete: slalom, freestyle, course racing or long distance. His immense talents as a competitor are complemented by his technical expertise and his coaching skills.
Along the way he has been extensively involved with promoting the sport, including writing the RYA windsurfing teaching system and producing windsurfing features and articles for virtually every national newspaper. He has also appeared on numerous TV and radio shows promoting the sport, including the windsurfing commentary for the London Olympics. Simon was also been a tester and technique editor for Boards magazine and is now Windsurfing UK magazine technique editor.
Simon has drawn on all this experience and now devotes much of his energy to running Windwise, which offers unique windsurfing coaching and holiday experiences in the UK and overseas that are dedicated to helping recreational windsurfers improve. He has formulated a Windwise fast track skills learning system that uses core principles in the sport and works for all levels from beginner to pro. He has coached over 5,000 people and his work has been published in windsurfing magazines all over the world.
Simon lives with an auto immune disease and none of this would have been possible without two kidney transplants in 2003 and 2015. He is eternally grateful to his sister and an unknown donor through the national donor system.
This has to be proof that windsurfing is good for you!
