The time had come to take to the water and see who would be the British Formula Champion of 2005. Britain boasts a very strong formula fleet which attracted both French and Dutch sailors to the open championships. The timing of the event provided an ideal build up regatta for the Europeans the following week in Rhodes.

Hove Freewave
Andy Chambers (AKA 'Bubble') outshone the competition with fluid and consistent moves despite the challenging conditions, most notably some slick Flakas. Terry Luxton and Simon Hurrey were second equal both showing an impressive array of moves. Caroline Radway reports.

Ireland Freewave - Andys Craic
Oh the joy of being back in Brandon Bay! What an awesome place and a fitting location for this very special event - Andy's Craic. The event was an informal event held in memory of Andy Funnell, Trevor's son and friend to all, who tragically died soon after the Triple Crown event in Ireland last May. This was the last place he had a really good sail, and the last place he whizzed round his trademark double forwards.

British Championships
The British Champs started with lots of wind, and some very hard racing that challenged even the international contingent!
Nick Dempsey & Christine Johnston won the Formula fleet, Adam Peplasis & Laura Bray won the Raceboard fleet.

British Open & Ocean Carnival
This years event promises to be bigger and better than ever!
Once again the British Open Racing Championships will form the main feature of 2005 Ocean Canival, hosted by Lagoon Watersports.Update: The RYA training on friday has been cancelled.

Aloha rules amendment
The National Under 15 fleet (Aloha) rules have had a small addition - the centerboard may be shimmed. The full rules are on the Aloha site, the addition is under C.6.3.

The UKWA warmly welcomes a new sponsor - New Cornish water sports business Pure Blue, which was officially launched this weekend in Newquay, Cornwall.

Freewave at Brandon Bay
As most people know there will not be a Triple Crown Event in Ireland this year but the UKWA event is still on at Brandon Bay for the 20th 23rd May and will be known as "Andy's K24 Craic" in memory of Andy Funnell. (Entry Form)

Rory leaves IWA
It is with mixed emotions we bid farewell to Rory from the post of Executive Secretary of IWA - we will miss his guiding hand on the tiller, but at the same time recognise our loss is someone else's gain.

The Ocean Carnival
The Ocean Carnival is held over the May bank holiday weekend at Lagoon Watersports. The Ocean Carnival is not just another ‘extreme' sports event. At this event the general public can not only watch some of the most extreme sports in the United Kingdom, but they can also actually get involved and try the sports for themselves.

ISAF mid-year meeting
On Sunday 15 May, ISAF and Neil Pryde signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the production of the Neil Pryde RS:X. Final details on the price control, production, distribution and availability were approved by the ISAF Council. Read more on the ISAF site.

Wojtek dominates 1st Euro-Cup
Wojtek Brzozowski from Poland dominated the kick-off event of the Windsurfing Euro-Cup 2005 in Portugal. The second place went to Gonzalo Costa Hoevel from Argentina in front of Ross Williams. The three have been fighting against a fleet of 36 of the best competitors of the World.
