Formula Report Bridlington

 

The 9th and 10th of July saw the ukwa formula fleet heading to Bridlington for round four of the ukwa cup series this was to be the last cup event before the summer break.Bridlington council had made there normal warm welcome by supplying the pa system and allowing free access to the pool and showers,also the parking of motor homes and caravans on the prom giving good views of the racing.

Saturday morning saw race one get underway in 10-12 knots of wind, with testing conditions due to large wind shifts on the up wind legs resulting in big gains and losses the early leaders where Richard Jones North/Starboard and Dave Coles Severne/Starboard with the lead changing between them through out the race until Dave made a mistake coming into the final windward mark gifting the race win to Richard Jones, Dave Coles finished 2nd and Tim Gibson North/Gaastra finished 3rd

 

Race two and again very shifty winds Dave Coles made the most of the shifts to round the windward mark in 1st place followed by Tim Gibson in 2nd and Richard Jones in 3rd but by the end of the down wind leg Richard had moved up to 2nd place, Dave coles had a healthy lead going into the second beat but this was soon to change as Dave was unable to take advantage of the lift that the rest of the fleet had dropping him to 4th place, Richard Jones had moved up to 1st Tim Gibson to 2nd with Chris Bond Ka/Gaastra making a appearance in 3rd, places where to change again on the down wind legs and by the end of the race Richard had taken 1st spot again Dave coles had move back to 2nd and Tim Gibson dropping back to third

 

Race 3 had a slight drama when the fleet came rushing into the line with 10 seconds to go only to find the committee boat crew jumping ship and into the rescue boat as the committee boat was sinking this start was abandoned and after the restart Tim Gibson was the man to lead the fleet around the windward mark followed by Dave Coles and Richard Jones in 3rd  by the end of the downwind leg again Dave Coles had moved up to 1st Tim had dropped to 2nd with Richard Jones in 3rd, the shifty wind was again to sort out the fleet on the upwind leg Richard tacked early on a shift which held and moved him up to 2nd, Dave dropped to 3rd Tim was back into 1st place where he would stay until Richard claimed the lead just before the finish. results for race 3, was Richard Jones 1st Tim Gibson 2nd and Dave Coles 3rd.

 

After having three racers back to back the fleet was sent in for lunch however this was the end of racing for the weekend as thunder storms arrived and refused to move away for the rest of the day ,Sunday arrived with plenty of sun but no wind.

The other winners in the fleet where Adrian Wallis 1st in national 11 and Zak Page 1st youth
