A Statement From Bob Ingram: Chairman UKWA

Following the recent decision by ISAF to replace RS:X with Kitesurfing at the 2016 Olympic Games UKWA Chairman, Bob Ingram said:

The decision made by ISAF is without doubt disturbing and regretful.

The ramifications of the decision are evolving and it will take some time for the picture to become clearer.

I had a meeting with several UKWA Committee members on Saturday morning and a long conversation with the RYA. However our evaluation of the decision is ongoing at present.

The UKWA would like to reassure its membership that we will continue to offer high quality racing for all of its current fleets and classes and there will be no change in our ability to award National Titles across all the current fleets.

Additionally the UKWA will seize the opportunity to step in and further support any class which may be disadvantaged by the decision should other associations no longer be in a position to support them in their current format. Furthermore the association will evolve to include any new developments which it considers will be of benefit to its membership and the evolution of windsurfing in the UK.

I am reminded of the UKWA mission Statement

MISSION STATEMENT

To organise and provide first class competition for the members of the Association in whichever classes or disciplines they wish to compete.

The UKWA continues to be as committed to this policy as it was last week before this decision and as it will be in the future after it.

Your Committee is dedicated to windsurfing in the UK in all its formats and will continue to work tirelessly with its partners to deliver the best outcome from this unfortunate decision to its membership.

I shall be inviting a representative from the RYA to attend our AGM and sailors meeting on Sunday 3rd June 2012 at Herne Bay when I hope the picture will be a little clearer and that this representative may be able to make a statement and take questions. AGM Herne Bay

The UKWA would also like to take this opportunity to wish British sailors and UKWA members Bryony Shaw and Nik Dempsey every success in their RS:X campaign at the 2012 Olympic Games.
